Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell is an American TV journalist anchor and commentary anchor for NBC News based in Washington D.C. Growing up in New York City, Mitchell obtained a bachelor's degree in English literature from the University of Pennsylvania. Mitchell began her career with KYW Radio and TV as the Philadelphia reporter in 1967. In 1976 she became a CBS affiliate WDVM-TV. (then WTOP in Washington DC). She was hired by NBC News Washington two years later as an general reporter. The year 1980 marked the beginning of her coverage of the White House. 1988 became the principal journalist for Congress. She was promoted to Chief White House correspondent in 1992 and chief foreign affairs reporter in 1994 for NBC News in 1994. Mitchell appeared as both an anchor and a panelist on the TV news program Meet the Press. Mitchell participated on a panel during the 1988 debates between George Bush & Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is married to Alan Greenspan former chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell has been awarded numerous times for her journalism achievements, such as an award called the Goldsmith Career Award from John F. Kennedy School of Government in 2005. The award was presented to her with the Leonard Zeidenberg Award by Radio-Television News Directors Association in 2004. Mitchell's first White House coverage was for NBC News, between 1981-1988. This period included the two Ronald Reagan terms in office. Mitchell reported on many noteworthy reports, including weapons control, the budget tax as well as the Iran Contra scandal. Mitchell also attended many summits with the help of President Reagan along with Mikhail Gorbachev.
